Lockhouse Coffee
Objective:
Develop a coffee brand and create product packaging.
Approach:
I used the town of Sunbury, PA as my inspiration. The town resides along the Susquehanna River and during the warmer months the river is a hub for water activities. As someone who has commuted to Sunbury, I was able to see how the river is enjoyed by everyone in the area.
Good morning.
The Logo
During my research, I discovered the Susquehanna River lock house. The lock house was the home of the canal lock tender and his family. I took inspiration from the actual house for my logo, which is depicted in a monoline style. The name Lockhouse was created to simplify the brand name into three words.
Let’s hit the river.
Here you can see the three different brews of coffee. Each bag features a different color scheme, water activity, and extra details around the bag.
Here is the K-Cup box next to the Morning Commute Blend bag. For the box, the entire illustration is shown on the larger side panel.
Details
I was heavily inspired by a company I’ve worked for, Weis Markets, a local grocery store chain. They reside in Sunbury, PA which happens to be along the Susquehanna River. I looked at reference of the area while developing the illustrations and quite literally looked up and down the river for inspiration.
Each bag features a different river activity!
Morning Commute Blend features the Millersburg Ferry, one of the few remaining wooden ferry boats.
Lazy River Blend features a speed boat with a water skier trailing behind.
Race Day Blend features a pair of crew teams on both the front and back of the bag. Local schools were always out on the river practicing during my commutes.
